Frequently asked questions.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is a holistic approach that focuses on resolving the root cause of disease instead of solely palliating symptoms. Learn more here.
Do I have to take supplements?
We often recommend supplements with our protocols but you always have a choice. We only recommend premium quality nutritional supplements often distributed exclusively to health care practitioners. These nutraceutical companies guide their supplement formulations through research and offer the most effective and therapeutic nutritional products.
Can you help me with my hormones?
Absolutely, we have some amazing Advanced Functional Tests that tell us about your hormones and great recommendations that work!
Is this covered by insurance?
Most insurance, including OHIP do not cover Functional Medicine care. Basic labs are usually covered but most of the functional markers may not be. For example, you may need to have your thyroid markers tested: basic markers will usually be covered while advanced ones will not. Though it’s one blood draw, you may have you pay for the non-covered markers out of pocket.
I already have lab work, can you tell me what they mean?
If you’ve had lab tests done within 6 months I’ll be happy to go over them and provide you with a detailed report of findings. If you’re in the USA, you can book a report of finding session here. If in Canada, you can book it here.
How do you help your patients?
I use functional lab tests and a detailed assessment of your health history to get a clear idea of how imbalances in your body are causing you to feel miserable. I then use a combination of lifestyle medicine and nutritional supplements to help you get back to your best health. I collaborate with your other health care providers and ensure clear communication is maintained throughout your journey with me.
Do I have to take medications?
You should always follow the recommendations of your physician and you should never stop your prescribed medication unless informed by your physician. Functional Medicine encourages a natural approach whenever possible. If you require medical attention, I will refer you back to your doctor and he may or may not chose to place you on medications.
Does this mean I have to become vegan or vegetarian?
Not unless you’re dying to! We encourage a diverse and balanced diet including plant and animal products. Quality is key: you should always go for food and produce that is non-GMO, fresh and with the least pesticides possible. Locally grown, organic produce, wild fish and seafood, grass-fed meat and pasture raised poultry are all great options.
